A simple hat
I started knitting hats only recently. One may wonder why.
This is because I thought knitted hats don't suite me. The problem was, however, that many classical shapes do not suite me. Once I've found the right shape and proportions, I've knitted some hats. The secret is that my hat has to be upstanding and not slouchy and turning up the edge (so classical and common) is a bad idea in my case. I got one ball of Brushed Kid Mohair (Adele's Mohair), 78 % mohair, 13 % wool, 9 % nylon), 50 g/110 m.
In no time I knitted this simple hat. It is not very warm and is rather thin, just for this weather (but soon one will need something more solid). Needles 4.5 mm, head circumference 54 cm.
I casted on 48 sts and worked ribbing 2 x 2 in the round for approximately 21 cm. Then I decrease 1 purl st in each pattern repeat: k2, p2 tog etc (36 sts). Then I worked 2 rounds without decreases. Then I decreased 1 knit st in each pattern repeat: k2 tog, p1 etc (24 sts). Then I worked 1 round without decreases. Then I decreased every purl st: k 2 tog (12 sts). Then I worked 1 round without decreases, cut the yarn so that the "tail" was sufficiently long (10-15 cm) and with a crochet hook pulled the "tail" through the stitches and tightened and fixed it. That's it. I used up 22 g, which means I have sufficient yarn for another one.
